I decided to put together a tutorial on multiple colored stenciling for t-shirts. Stenciling is a really cheap way to make some shirt designs, and it can be really intricate if you are patient.

Great tutorial! I just have a few questions..
Won't the stencil get glued to the shirt with the spray glue?
And the paint, is it acrylics? Won't it fade a bit in the wash?

You want the stenc glued to the shirt, or else when spraypainting the shirt it will lift from the air being blown on it, and you'll have over spray in places you don't want paint. The spray glue isn't strong enough to hold like super glue, the stencil will peel away easily.

I just use krylon flat spray paint, or whatever is cheaper at Walmart. The shirts can fade a bit, especially depending on how many coats you put on.'I also found ironing the short inside out after the shirt has dried completely helps bond the paint. I've had shirts last several years and still be distinct. Some have faded, but I also like that distressed look that so many shirts look like these days. Try experimenting with different brands of paint too, and read the label, some are great for fabrics.

Ahh that clears it. I figured it would help to glue down the stencil but I didn't know how well it would peel out afterwards.
Thanks for the advice that was really useful. I will experiment with that!

Nice tutorial. Personally, I prefer textile paint for shirts, since there's less hassle during the painting and the result is more durable and wash-proof.
